Un viaggio pensato per conoscere la Giordania nelle sue perle di bellezza: partendo dalla giovane e moderna capitale Amman, si visiteranno dapprima i tesori del nord del paese con Gerasa, la Pompei d’Oriente e il castello di Ajloun nell’omonima riserva, per scendere poi lungo l’antica Via dei Re che percorre il paese da nord a sud, si arriverà nella misteriosa ed affascinante Petra, città rosa antica capitale dei Nabatei, miracolo di architettura e archeologia. Particolarità assoluta di questo viaggio è però il pernottamento in campo tendato nel deserto del Wadi Rum. Reso famoso dal personaggio di Laurence d’Arabia, questo deserto stupisce anche i viaggiatori più esperti per i colori che spaziano dall’arancio ocra al giallo e per le sue formazioni rocciose che nascondono tanti segreti.

Arrivo ad Amman. Disbrigo delle formalità di frontiera recupero dei bagagli. Trasferimento in hotel. Cena e pernottamento.
AMMAN
Con oltre 5000 anni di storia alle spalle, Amman, la capitale della Giordania, è disseminata di rovine romane e di esempi di architettura bizantina e musulmana. Il centro di Amman, situato ai piedi delle colline su cui è distesa la città, pullula di alberghi economici, bancarelle di shwarma, ristoranti economici, fast food all’occidentale, ristoranti cinesi e pubs. A nord e ovest del centro, invece, si trovano ristoranti occidentali e locali alla moda.
Prima colazione. Incontro con la guida parlane italiano e visita orientativa della città che, con i suoi 5000 anni di storia, è disseminata di rovine romane come la cittadella ed il foro. Si potrà ammirare il teatro romano ora restaurato, che può ospitare sino a 6000 posti. Partenza in bus per la visita dei castelli del deserto: Amra, Azraq e Karraneh, costruiti dai califfi Omayyadi nel 8° secolo d.C. e tutti caratterizzati da diversi stili architettonici. Al termine della visita, rientro ad Amman. Cena e pernottamento in hotel.
Prima colazione. Partenza per il nord del Paese per la visita di Jerash, l’antica Gerasa. La città fu scoperta sotto una spessa coltre di sabbia nel 1806 dal tedesco Seetzen, ma solo nel 1920 iniziarono gli scavi svelando che la città risultava abitata sin dal periodo neolitico: 6000-4000 a.C. Jerash è ritenuta una delle più belle e meglio conservate città romane del Medio Oriente. Gerasa fu fondata da Alessandro Magno il Macedone intorno al 332 a.C. e divenne una delle più belle e ricche città delle provincie. Fu conquistata dai Romani nel 63 a.C. e stabilì importanti rapporti commerciali con i Nabatei di Petra e con le altre città della Decapoli, la Lega della Provincia Romana d’Arabia, della quale fece parte sino al 90 d.C. quando con il progressivo sviluppo della città di Palmira in Siria, lo splendore e l’importanza di Jerash furono appannate.
Proseguimento per Ajloun e visita del maestoso castello. Il Castello fu fatto costruire da uno dei generali di Saladino nel 1184 d.C. per controllare le locali miniere di ferro e scongiurare le invasioni dei Franchi e dominava le tre principali vie di accesso alla Valle del Giordano proteggendo le rotte commerciali tra Giordania e Siria.
Divenne un importante raccordo nella catena di difesa contro i Crociati, che tentarono invano per decenni di espugnarlo. Rientro ad Amman nel tardo pomeriggio. cena e pernottamento in albergo.
JERASH
Scoperta sotto una spessa coltre di sabbia nel 1806 dal tedesco Seetzen, in questa cità si trova il sito archeologico dell’antica Gerasa, uno dei più interessanti della Giordania. Probabilmente abitata sin dai tempi del Neolitico, in un certo momento della sua storia ha fatto parte della Decapoli dell’imperatore Pompeo, una lega commerciale composta da dieci città del Medio Oriente.
Prima colazione in hotel. Partenza per Madaba, famosa per i suoi mosaici, uno fra tutti quello che rappresenta la mappa della Palestina, risalente a VI secolo, conservata nella chiesa greco-ortodossa di San Giorgio. Proseguimento per il Monte Nebo ove si trova il monumento dedicato a Mosè.
Questo luogo è uno dei più venerati della Giordania poiché una leggenda narra che qui visse ed è sepolto Mosé. Il panorama che si può godere sulla Valle del Giordano sino al Mar Rosso e ai tetti delle case di Gerusalemme e Betlemme è spettacolare. Al termine della visita si prosegue per il castello crociato di Kerak, antica roccaforte dei crociati. Arrivo a Petra in serata. Cena e pernottamento in hotel.
MADABA
Questa piacevole cittadina che si trova a 30 km a sud di Amman, è conosciuta per i suoi pregevoli mosaici di epoca bizantina, tra i quali la “mappa di Madaba”, una mappa a mosaico della Palestina risalente al VI secolo, conservata nella chiesa greco-ortodossa di San Giorgio.
MONTE NEBO
Situato a sud-ovest di Amman, da cui dista circa una quarantina di chilometri, sul Monte Nebo si può godere di un panorama spettacolare che va dalla Valle del Giordano sino al Mar Rosso e ai tetti delle case di Gerusalemme e Betlemme. È sulla cima di questa montagna che Mosè prima di morire riuscì a vedere la Terra Promessa ed è in questo punto che è stato eretto il Memoriale di Mosè.
Prima colazione. Intera giornata dedicata alla visita di questa splendida città, in origine capitale del regno nabateo e della Provincia Romana d’Arabia, chiamata dagli arabi Wadi Musa.
Spesso descritta come una delle otto meraviglie del mondo antico, Petra è senza ombra di dubbio il tesoro più prezioso della Giordania e la sua maggiore attrattiva turistica. È una vasta città dalle caratteristiche uniche: i Nabatei, industriosa popolazione araba insediatasi in questa zona oltre 2000 anni fa, la crearono dalla nuda roccia e la trasformarono in uno snodo cruciale per le rotte commerciali della seta e delle spezie, grazie alle quali Cina, India e Arabia del Sud poterono entrare in contatto con Egitto, Siria, Grecia e Roma.
Alla città si accede attraverso il Siq, una stretta gola, lunga più di 1 chilometro, fiancheggiata da ripide pareti rocciose alte 80 metri. Attraversare il Siq è un’esperienza unica: i colori e le formazioni rocciose lasciano il visitatore a bocca aperta. Una volta raggiunta la fine del Siq, scorgerete finalmente il Khazneh (il Tesoro). Un’imponente facciata, larga 30 metri e alta 43, creata dalla nuda roccia, color rosa pallido fa sembrare insignificante quello che c’è intorno.
È stata scavata all’inizio del I secolo per essere la tomba di un importante re nabateo e testimonia il genio architettonico di questo antico popolo. Non appena si entra nella valle di Petra si viene sopraffatti dalla bellezza naturale di questo luogo e dalle sue meraviglie architettoniche. Sono centinaia le tombe scavate nella roccia con intricate incisioni: a differenza delle case, per la maggior parte andate distrutte dai terremoti, le tombe sono state scavate per durare in eterno e 500 di esse sono sopravvissute, vuote ma affascinanti dal momento in cui si varca la soglia e ci si addentra nella loro oscurità. Qui si trova anche un’imponente costruzione nabatea, un teatro in stile romano, in grado di ospitare 3000 spettatori. Sono visibili obelischi, templi, altari sacrificali e strade colonnate, mentre dall’alto domina la vallata l’imponente Monastero di Ad-Deir: per visitarlo bisogna salire una scalinata di 800 gradini scavati nella roccia.
I primi insediamenti di Petra risalgono al VI secolo a.C., ad opera degli arabi nabatei, una tribù nomade che si stabilì nella regione dando vita alle prime attività commerciali di un impero che si sarebbe esteso alla Siria. Malgrado i ripetuti tentativi da parte del re seleuco Antioco, dell’imperatore romano Pompeo e di Erode il Grande di assoggettare Petra ai loro rispettivi imperi, Petra è rimasta nelle mani dei Nabatei fino al 100 d.C. circa, quando i Romani riuscirono a conquistarla. Era ancora abitata durante il periodo bizantino quando l’impero romano volse la propria attenzione a est di Costantinopoli, ma la sua importanza diminuì presto. I Crociati costruirono qui un forte nel XII secolo, ma si ritirarono presto lasciando Petra alle popolazioni del luogo fino all’inizio del XIX Secolo, quando fu riscoperta dall’esploratore svizzero Johann Ludwig Burckhardt nel 1812. Rientro in albergo nel pomeriggio. Cena e pernottamento.
PETRA
A 150 km da Amman, un tempo capitale dei Nabatei, Petra è senza ombra di dubbio il tesoro più prezioso della Giordania. Petra, infatti, situata in un profondo canyon accessibile solo attraverso uno stretto e tortuoso crepaccio, è una stupefacente città scavata nella roccia.
Prima colazione. Partenza per la visita di Beida (Piccola Petra). Si prosegue poi per il deserto del Wadi Rum. Si effettuerà una escursione in jeep 4×4 attraverso questo deserto, il più vasto della Giordania godendo di spettacoli surreali di incredibile bellezza con infinite tonalità di rosso, ocra e giallo, rinomata sin dai tempi dei romani. Cena e pernottamento in campo tendato.
WADI RUM
A 60 km circa a est di AqabaIl, il Wadi Rum, il più vasto wadi in Giordania, è un posto stupefacente, con paesaggi favolosi, incontaminati e senza tempo. Il Wadi Rum, anche detto Valle della luna, è una vallata scavata nei millenni dallo scorrere di un fiume nel suolo sabbioso e di roccia granitica della Giordania meridionale. Gli unici residenti della zona sono i circa 4000 abitanti del villaggio e i beduini nomadi, e i soli edifici, invece, sono tende di lana di capra, alcuni negozi e alcune case in cemento.
Prima colazione . Mattinata libera alla scoperta dei paesaggi del deserto del Wadi Rum, senza guida. Consigliamo di dormire sotto le stelle o svegliarsi di buon ora per ammirare i colori dell’alba. Nel pomeriggio rientro senza guida ad Amman. Cena e pernottamento in albergo.
Prima colazione in albergo. Trasferimento in aeroporto. Partenza per l’Italia con voli di linea, secondo disponibilità (costo del biglietto non incluso nella quota base). Arrivo in Italia.
